Where are you now and where do you want to go?

This may sound like the title of a Dr. Seuss children’s book or your GPS but, I am talking about what you need to do if you want to change  your life – what’s it going to take for you to become the best version of yourself.

As a wellness coordinator I get to work employees all over our state as they challenge themselves to change the behaviors that are holding them back from feeling unbalanced, unmotivated, stressed, tired, overweight, and the list goes on. Each person I work with is on their own unique journey and I get to support them on the path of self-exploration. There is no quick fix or magic pill, this work takes dedication and commitment. By far some the hardest most rewarding work you’ll ever do, I can promise you that!

To change a behavior is truly a personal journey that starts with self-evaluation and awareness of your surroundings.  You’ll have to dig deep to identify what health-related behavior changes you are ready to make at this time and this is where a  wellness coordinator can lend support to your success.

You’ll need to figure out how important this goal is to you and how confident you are in reaching it. Keep in mind goals are also key predictors of personal growth and success. Once you have identified which behavior you are ready to change then it’s time to develop a plan.
One way to close the gap of where you are today and where you want to be in relation to your behavior is to write down a S.M.A.R.T goal (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely) This step is critical and can help you stay on track as you practice your new behavior.  You won’t find success overnight change takes time to develop and before it becomes a habit.

It’s important to be consistent, kind and forgiving to yourself as you stumble – you can get to where you want to be and it’s worth it but it’s a journey and for some it happens over a lifetime.

Are you ready to start journey? As an EMHS employee and spouses / domestic partners on the Medical Plan you have a team of dedicated wellness coordinators here to guide and support you – we’re ready when you are!
